Training House Burn — A Day of Real-World Fire Experience

The Evansville Fire District would like to thank Jamie and Amy Larson for allowing EFD and several neighboring fire departments to conduct live fire training today. This type of training is invaluable to our firefighters — providing real-world experience in understanding fire behavior, fire extinguishment, and working together with the mutual aid departments who would be responding to fires in this area.

A special thank you to the departments and agencies who joined us and gave up their Saturday to train together as one team:

We thank them for their willingness to train together as one team. This is exactly how we prepare to best serve and protect our community.

Evansville Fire Safety Week — What to Expect

The Evansville Community School District (ECSD) will be participating in Fire Prevention Week, aligning with the National Fire Protection Association's (NFPA) annual observance held in early October.

About Fire Prevention Week: Fire Prevention Week is the longest-running public health observance in the United States, held annually in early October to commemorate both the Great Chicago Fire and the Peshtigo, WI Fire of 1871. The State of Wisconsin and the NFPA jointly promote this week to raise fire safety awareness statewide.

2026 Theme — "Charge Into Fire Safety™: Safe Charging Is a Superpower" focuses on safe lithium-ion battery charging habits to reduce fire risks in the home. With the rise of e-bikes, scooters, and rechargeable devices, battery fires are an increasing concern nationwide.

Members of the Evansville Fire District will visit ECSD schools throughout the week to deliver fire safety education, conduct apparatus tours, and engage students with hands-on demonstrations. Community members are encouraged to check their smoke detectors and review their home escape plans during Fire Prevention Week.
