Respond to a minimum of 10% of calls per calendar year (typically ~25 calls annually)
Attend a minimum of 8 training sessions per year — 1st Monday evening of each month or Saturday AM practices (Sept–May)
Attend a minimum of 8 meetings / truck checks per year — 2nd Monday evening of each month
Attain State of Wisconsin Firefighter 1 Certification within 12 months of joining EFD
Be capable of wearing Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA)
Be in good physical health and capable of strenuous work
Be willing to participate in fundraising activities
Live or work within the Evansville Fire District
Abide by all Standard Policies, Procedures and Guidelines
What You Get
Paid per hour while on fire calls — pay rates increase based on qualifications and certifications
Paid for attending training — all training sessions are compensated
Training costs paid by EFD — State of Wisconsin Certification class costs fully covered
LOSA Retirement Program — after probationary period, enrolled in Length of Service Award (EFD & State of Wisconsin retirement fund)
All equipment provided — full gear, PPE, and tools supplied by Evansville Fire District

Eligibility
Ready to learn and serve. No prior firefighting experience required — we train you from the ground up.
Residents or workers within the Evansville Fire District who want to give back to their neighbors.
Ages 18 and above. Youth Firefighter program available for age 17. Valid driver's license required.
Ability to meet physical and training requirements. A fitness evaluation is part of the process.
Training
Structure fires, vehicle fires, wildland and grass fires — full hands-on suppression training.
Vehicle extrication, technical rescue, and rapid intervention team (RIT) operations.
Engine, tender, and brush truck operations. Pump, hose, ladder, and SCBA proficiency.
NIMS Incident Command System, scene safety, accountability, and hazmat awareness.
